Process of model development, validation, and use. Study activities in the blue shaded area are shown in the broader research context. Data gathered in prior interviews was analyzed for causal structure and used to generate a draft causal-loop diagram. The diagram was validated in two virtual sessions with a stakeholder panel and used to identify potential leverage points for improving rural veterans’ access to primary care. The validated diagram and leverage point analysis will be used in future research to pilot an intervention, which will be qualitatively evaluated. Future rounds of modeling could inform intervention refinement and scale-up
