Table 1 Definitions of measures of accuracy

From: Validity of algorithms for identifying five chronic conditions in MedicineInsight, an Australian national general practice database

Sensitivity: the number of patients that are identified by the MedicineInsight algorithm as having the specific health condition, as a proportion of patients who truly have the specific health condition (according to EHR reviews)

Specificity: the number of patients that are identified by the MedicineInsight algorithm as not having the specific health condition, as a proportion of patients who truly do not have the specific health condition

Positive predictive value (PPV): the number of patients that truly have the specific health condition, as a proportion of patients identified by the MedicineInsight algorithm as having the specific health condition.

Negative predictive value (NPV): the number of patients that truly do not have the specific health condition, as a proportion of patients identified by the MedicineInsight algorithm as not having the specific health condition.
