Variable

Definition of the variable

Outcome variable

The type of major health care facility used for prenatal care

1 = obstetrics in medical centres or regional hospitals; 2 = obstetrics in local hospitals; 3 = obstetric clinics, health stations, midwives or others.

The convenience of transportation to and from prenatal care facilities

1 = inconvenient (very inconvenient or somewhat inconvenient); 2 = moderate; 3 = convenient; 4 = very convenient.

Major explanatory variables

Rural

= 1 if a mother lived in a rural area during pregnancy, and 0 otherwise.

1993_1995

= 1 if a pregnancy was during January 1, 1993 and February 28, 1995, and 0 otherwise.

1996_1997

= 1 if a pregnancy was during January 1, 1996 and December 31, 1997, and 0 otherwise.

1998_1999

= 1 if a pregnancy was during January 1, 1998 and December 31, 1999, and 0 otherwise.

The interaction term of "Rural" and "1993_1995"

Rural*1996_1997
