Definition

Internal auditing

An independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve an organisation's operations. It helps an organisation accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluating and improving the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance [10].

Audit process

A set of established methods for conducting the audit of a department. It describes the activities of auditors needed to achieve the audit objectives [23].

Audit team

A group of experienced, trained, and knowledgeable individuals selected to perform an internal audit. The audit team is responsible for auditing selected departments in its own hospital [23].

Auditee

The department or employee of the department being audited [23].
