Term

Definition

Ethno-Racial

Includes persons who are racialized but not First Nations People. Also referred to as “people of colour” or “visible minorities” [4].

Racialized

The term racialized person/group refers to what was previously called "ethno-racial or people of colour" and First Nations People. The Ontario Human Rights Commission states: “When it is necessary to describe people collectively, the term “racialized person” or “racialized group” is preferred over "racial minority,” "visible minority", "person of colour" or “non-White” as it expresses race as a social construct rather than as a description based on perceived biological traits” [3, 4].
